Journey with Cézanne

“The truth is in nature, and I shall prove it.”
Paul Cézanne (1839 – 1906)
Being the first artist of his generation to break away from Impressionism, Cézanne had his own artistic views about line, color and perspective. Known as the father of Post-Impressionism, he went a long way exploring different laws of form that pushed art into further new directions, including Cubism.
Cezanne carried a sense of social responsibility into his drawings through which he aimed to describe life and its complexities – the reason his brushstrokes were not smooth and continuous as much as they were bold and explicit.
